Wayland Groundbreaking – News and Photos

Wayland Groundbreaking Ceremony

Top: Wayland Build Sponsors join Board President, Mike Wimberly, in officially breaking ground. Bottom: Doug Leard, Wayland Selectmen Chairman, and Mary Antes, Local Project Committe member, both spoke at the ceremony on the impact of the upcoming Wayland builds.

Wayland is one step closer to four new affordable housing units. In late June, we broke ground at 91-93 and 95-97 Stonebridge Road, the future sight of one 2-bedroom, two 3-bedroom, and one 4-bedroom units.

“This is our largest project ever,” said MetroWest/Greater Worcester Habitat for Humanity Construction Manager John Bram. “We have only been able to take on the project because of the strong support within the community and participation of dedicated town officials. We anticipate putting in the foundation blocks and getting started with construction later this summer or early fall.”

The family selection process begins next month. In December, four families will receive an early Christmas present. The homes will be sold to pre-qualified homeowners who demonstrate a need for housing and that earn 25-60% of the area median income. To purchase Habitat homes, families must attend homeownership and budgeting classes, in addition to contributing 400-500 hours of sweat equity. Habitat provides the families with a 0 %-interest mortgage.
