ReStore Truck Stolen and Destroyed

On Wednesday morning (October 23) ReStore staff, Justin McNally and Gary Dietrich found the ReStore 16-foot box truck was missing from the loading dock, where it is typically parked for the night. After speaking with ReStore and Habitat staff and seeing broken glass on the ground near where the passenger side window would be located, we realized that the truck had been stolen.

We promptly called the police and filed a report. Shortly after, the police informed us that they had received a report from last night (Tuesday October 22) at 8:37pm of a Habitat ReStore truck on fire at 456 Grove Street, less than half a mile from our office and ReStore. The fire completely destroyed the truck, along with ReStore tools and $628 worth of appliance donations.

The ReStore and Habitat staff and volunteers are heartbroken at this news. As you know, our ability to pick up donations across our service area is at the foundation of what we can accomplish at the ReStore. We are able to provide crucial funds for our Habitat homes when we add more inventory to our retail floor. We are working hard so that this shameful and reprehensible criminal act will not impede our operations.
