4 Homestead Ave, Auburn
These homes have officially been dedicated to the Garcia and Sherman families!
Click here for videos and photos from this heartfelt dedication ceremony. Thank you to all of you who helped the Sherman’s and Garcia’s build their dream homes.
About the Build:
As part of an initiative to avoid abandoned, vacant homes, Bank of America donated 4 Homestead Ave to Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester. The single family home previously on the lot was demolished in order to build a brand new duplex.
The duplex has been sold to families who demonstrated a need for housing, ability to partner with Habitat and ability to pay a mortgage. These families had an income of 30-60% of the area median income, attended homeownership and budgeting classes, and contributed 400-500 hours of sweat equity. Habitat provides a 0%-interest mortgage.
Local leadership, a combination of public and private resources and hands-on participation by more than 1,000 volunteers has combined to ensure the success of this grass-roots effort to raise awareness and funds for affordable housing. Read more about this build here, thanks to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
These homes are made possible thanks to our lead sponsor Thrivent Financial! A huge supporter of Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the nation – and internationally – Thrivent Financial has pledged to support this build with a gift of $212,000 which will cover half the total costs to build this duplex. Local Project Committee:
The Auburn Project has been supported by a Local Project Committee, or LPC. The LPC role recognizes that community-based involvement is essential to the project’s success. LPC members establish and foster partnerships at the community level to create lasting and mutually beneficial relationships. The LPC serves in leading public awareness and communication efforts, recruiting volunteers, fundraising, and securing in-kind donations. The Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester staff and board of directors support the LPC throughout the home-building process.
Special thanks to the sponsors of this project!
