Habitat for Humanity of MetroWest/Greater Worcester has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity International and affiliates across the country as an official Veterans Build partner to serve U.S. Veterans, military service members and their families.
As a Veterans Build affiliate, Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester is proud to serve those who have served our country. This initiative works to provide opportunities for veterans and military families in three key areas:
1. Home Build Program: In an effort to address the need for affordable housing in our veteran population Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester is dedicated to building affordable homes for veterans, military members, and their families. Our affiliate is currently building our second veterans home build, on Aetna Street in Worcester, MA. We also have a veteran housing opportunity in Northborough, MA. Both of these homes are accepting applications now. To learn how to apply for either of these home ownership opportunities click here.
2. Critical Home Repair Program: For families who are in need of significant repair on their homes and are living between 30 and 60% of the area median income. This program provides services including, but not limited to, wheelchair ramps installation, roof replacement, siding repair, and landscaping. To apply for this program Click Here.
3. Operation Playhouse: This is a program sponsored by corporate and faith groups. Teams come together to build, decorate, and donate playhouses to local veteran families. Learn more about this program here! Veteran families interested in receiving a playhouse should contact Community Outreach Manager Seth Jajliardo at 508-799-9259 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition to these services, Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester also pledges to:
Mobilize: Engage military members, veterans, families, and supporters in volunteer opportunities which will assist build projects.
Employ: Recruit veterans for employment, board membership, extended volunteer opportunities and national service (AmeriCorps)
Educate: Provide access to financial literacy and home ownership education programs
Honor: Support the courageous men and women who have served our country through events that will honor their service. These events include a military community build during the week of Veterans Day.
